Maastricht 1978:A gruesome secret hides in the shadows of Maastricht’s historic alleyways.
A series of murders shakes the city, beginning with a shocking discovery: the mayor’s son nailed to a cross, hanging dead in front of the Basilica of Saint Servatius. Shortly thereafter, another murder – the museum director, brutally beaten to death on the frozen harbor. The staging of the crime scenes resembles the biblical plagues depicted in the paintings of the mysterious artist Rui de Lombarde, whose trail vanished into thin air sixteen years ago.
Commissioner Stijn van der Rijns and his colleague Henk Peeters are faced with a puzzle. Supported by the sharp-witted art historian Tessa van Eertvelt, they delve deep into the dark depths of the art world. But the cunning serial killer is always one step ahead of them. A macabre game of cat and mouse begins, pushing the investigators to their limits.
